Summary of the SFEAP 2018 congress

Workshop

The SFEAP 2018 congress took place from 9 to 12 October 2018 at the Grand Théâtre d’Albi. It was jointly organized by ProFI’s Toulouse node and the Montpellier proteomic platform (PPM). It brought together 150 people to participate in a rich program with 7 invited lectures, 20 oral presentations and nearly 50 posters, covering most of the major areas of proteomics such as quantitative proteomics, post-translational modifications, interactomics, clinical proteomics, proteomics for microorganisms, structural proteomics and bioinformatics. A dozen exhibitors were also present. Finally, this congress was the first opportunity to include in the program a conference open to the general public, which was well attended. This conference was given by Joël Bockaert, member of the Academy of Sciences and director of the Pôle Biologie-Santé Rabelais of Montpellier. This conference focused on the mechanisms of communication of living organisms and was followed by a debate with the audience.

In the margins of the congress, ProFI organised a meeting of all French proteomics platforms with the aim of bringing our community together (1) to gain a better understanding of its organisation, (2) to coordinate activities of animation and training and (3) to conduct a prospective reflection on the evolution of proteomics in France. This meeting, initiated during the SMMAP 2017 congress, is expected to become a recurring event on the margins of SFEAP’s annual congresses. The next meeting is scheduled for September 2019 in Strasbourg.
